SEAL BEACH POLICE FOUNDATION HONORS DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY NICHOLAS MILLER WITH CHIEF’S COMMENDATION AWARD

SANTA ANA, Calif. – SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Seal Beach Police Foundation (SBPF) recognized Deputy District Attorney (DDA) Nicholas Miller of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) with the Chief’s Commendation award for his exemplary work with the Seal Beach Police Department (SBPD) and the community. The 6th annual Seal Beach Public Safety Awards Luncheon was held today at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach.

Each year, the SBPF hosts the Public Safety Awards Luncheon to show the community’s appreciation for first responders, law enforcement personnel, and prosecutors. Honorees from the OCDA, SBPD, Seal Beach Marine Safety, Orange County Fire Authority, and West Cities Police Communications were recognized for their great acts of bravery and service. Award categories include Volunteer Programs, Lifesaving Awards, Exemplary Service - West-Comm, Police Office of the Year, and the Chief’s Commendation.

DDA Miller graduated summa cum laude from the University of San Francisco (USF) in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in legal studies. Shortly after earning his juris doctor degree from USF School of Law in 2009, Miller joined the OCDA in August 2011. He began his career with the OCDA as a deputy district attorney in the Central Justice Center.  He was promoted to the Felony Charging Unit at the West Justice Center (“WJC”) in 2013.  He also spent six months prosecuting DUI-Drug Cases at WJC before being promoted to Felony Panel. Miller worked in the Juvenile Justice Center from January 2017 until October 2017 when he joined the Major Fraud Unit.

Miller remarked, “I would like to thank the men and women of the Seal Beach Police Department for honoring me with this award. It is an honor and a privilege to work with and support the heroes who risk their lives every day to protect Orange County.”

At the luncheon, SBPD Interim Chief of Police Joe Miller stated, “[Miller] has proven to be not only a valuable asset to the Seal Beach community but also a good friend to the men and women of Seal Beach Police Department. Nick can be found frequently going on ride alongs with Seal Beach officers in an attempt to strengthen the relationship between the DA’s office and the Seal Beach Police Department. He is undeniably dedicated to justice and cares deeply for the Seal Beach community,” He continued, “[Nick] is always available by telephone to answer legal questions and to connect Seal Beach officers and investigators with prosecutorial resources. He goes out of his way to make sure Seal Beach Police Department personnel are kept current on the law by providing case law updates and contributing to briefing training. Most remarkably, Nick does this on his own time in addition to the many hours he already works. Because of his relentless pursuit of justice, his commitment to strengthen the relationship between the District Attorney’s Office and the Seal Beach Police Department, and his dedication to the Seal Beach community, Nick is awarded the Chief’s Commendation Award.”

District Attorney Tony Rackauckas congratulated DDA Miller and shared, “This award recognizes the hard work and dedication Nick puts into each and every case he prosecutes. He is passionate about working alongside excellent law enforcement partners like SBPD to protect the community and serve those harmed by crime. Miller’s receipt of the Chief’s Commendation award is well deserved and we thank the Seal Beach Police Foundation for recognizing his outstanding work with the OCDA.”

SBPF is a non-profit organization which utilizes generous contributions of fellow citizens and funding partners to enhance the SBPD’s efforts in three vital areas:  community partnership and advocacy, employee development, and police service enhancements.
