OCATT MISSION STATEMENT

To reduce the incidence of vehicle theft while increasing the apprehension of the professional vehicle thief.

The Orange County Auto Theft Task Force (OCATT) is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program. OCATT officially began operations in July 1993. Our primary mission is to reduce the incidence of vehicle theft while increasing the apprehension of the professional vehicle thief.

OCATT is coordinated through the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) under the management of a California Highway Patrol (CHP) Lieutenant, CHP Sergeant and Orange County Sheriff Department (OCSD) Sergeant. The task force is comprised of law enforcement personnel from the following: CHP, Costa Mesa Police Department, OCSD, La Habra Police Department, Department of Motor Vehicles, Orange County District Attorney,  National Insurance Crime Bureau, and Westminster Police Department. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office assigns a full time deputy district attorney, crime analyst, attorney clerk, and accountant to OCATT.

OCATT accomplishes its mission through proactive investigative methods, providing vehicle theft training to allied agencies, and educating the public in vehicle theft prevention. OCATT has been highly succesful in combating vehicle theft and vehicle fraud over the past years within Orange County. OCATT has received several vehicle theft awards for their success in vehicle theft investigations.
