OF DISORDERLY CONDUCT OUTSIDE
CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE AT UCI

*Eight co-defendants have cases pending

 

SANTA ANA – 11 students and sympathizers were convicted today of being disorderly outside the Chancellor’s Office and refusing to leave the University of California, Irvine (UCI) campus. The following seven student co-defendants pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count each of disturbing the peace and refusal to disperse and were sentenced to 60 hours of community service and one year of informal probation: Moosa Matt Azadian, 21, Anaheim; Fernando Chirino, 29, Irvine; Saron Ephraim, 23, Tustin; Dennis Lopez, 33, Irvine; Sylvia Van Pham, 22, Fountain Valley; Whitney Lauren Shepard, 23, Irvine; and Samiyyah Jowharah Tillman, 23, Irvine.

 

The following three non-student co-defendants pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count each of disturbing the peace and refusal to disperse and were sentenced to 10 days of Caltrans work and three years of informal probation: Juan Antonio Castillo, 49, Santa Ana; Evangelina Nevarez, 37, Los Angeles; and Celene Perez, 29, Los Angeles. Defendant John Bruning, 25, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of false imprisonment and was sentenced to five days of Caltrans work and one year of informal probation.

 

A case is pending against eight additional co-defendants, who are scheduled for a pre-trial hearing Nov. 29, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-47, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.  If convicted of their charges, each of the following defendants face a sentence ranging from probation to one year in jail.

 

Defendant James Eric Lagergren, 24, Irvine, is charged with one misdemeanor count each of false imprisonment, obstruction of a public place, and and being a public nuisance. Eric Kitayama, 27, Anaheim Hills, is charged with two misdemeanor counts of trespassing, and one misdemeanor count each of disturbing the peace and refusal to disperse.

 

The following six co-defendants are charged with one misdemeanor count each of trespassing, disturbing the peace, and refusal to disperse: Rachel Denice Burton, 21, Irvine; Ryan Sinclaire Davis, 23, Santa Ana; Sandra Flores, 21, Irvine; Indar Smith, 23, Irvine; Aida Belaynes Soloman, 22, Irvine; and Irendeep Kaur Srai, 23, Irvine.

 

All the defendants were UCI students in February 2010 except Castillo, Nevarez, Perez, and former student Kitayama.
