*SIX OTHERS AWAITING TRIAL FOR PARTICIPATING IN SAME MURDER
SANTA ANA – Another inmate defendant Miguel Angel Guillen, 45, of Mexico, was charged with murder today in connection of a beating murder of a fellow inmate at the Theo Lacy Facility in Orange. Six additional inmates Garrett Eugene Aguilar, 25, Stephen Paul Carlstrom, 39, Michael Stewart Garten, 22, Eric Charles Miller, 22, Jared Louis Petrovich, 23, and Christopher Teague, 31, were charged in November 2006 with one count of murder in the death of John Chamberlain. If convicted, they each face 25 years to life in prison. Defendant Miguel Angel Guillen is scheduled to be arraigned in C-5 at 1:30 p.m., on December 28, 2007, at the Central Justice Center, in Santa Ana.
On October 5, 2006, Guillen and the other six defendants are accused of targeting Chamberlain because they believed him to be a child molester. Chamberlain was in custody on possession of child pornography charges. The seven men are accused of beating him repeatedly inside a cell in the jail facility. Chamberlain was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Defendant Guillen has been a suspect in this case. The defendant had been deported at the time of filing for the other six defendants. Guillen is accused of entering the United States under a false name. He was arrested by the Anaheim Police Department.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Ebrahim Baytieh of the Homicide Unit will prosecute this case.
