BIBLE SCHOOLTEACHER CHARGED WITH MOLESTING

SANTA ANA – A Bible study teacher and prayer counselor for Trinity Broadcasting Network has been charged with molesting while spanking John Doe when he was 9 to 11-years-old.  Roger Warren Evans, 53, Tustin, is a member and a volunteer of the First Advent Christian Church located on West Main Street in Tustin.  Evans has been charged with two counts of committing lewd acts on a victim under 14, committing the lewd acts for over three months, and dissuading a witness through fear.  If convicted of all charges, he faces 20 years of state prison.

The investigation began when Evans turned himself in to Tustin Police.  Evans is accused of finding excuses to discipline John Doe, spanking and fondling him.  Evans is accused of being sexually aroused by the spanking which occurred 10 to 12 times.   Evans is also accused of threatening John Doe of spanking him harder if he told anyone.  He is accused of committing these acts during Bible study hours in another room.  Evans has been a church volunteer and a children’s Bible study teacher who has taught 6 to 12-year-olds for the past two years.

Evans was in court at 1:30 p.m. in C-57, Central Justice Center, in Santa Ana.  His arraignment was continued to March 30, 2006,  He is being held on $500,000 bail.
