BOOSTER CLUB TREASURER TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR EMBEZZLING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FROM HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES

WESTMINSTER – The treasurer of the Cypress High School Athletic Boosters Club will be arraigned tomorrow for stealing over $11,700 from the club bank account.  Peggy Lou Shaw, 45, Cypress, is charged with grand theft by embezzlement and faces three years in prison if convicted.  She is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow, October 20, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. in Department W-15, West Justice Center, Westminster.

Between May and June of 2006, Shaw is accused of writing checks to herself or to “cash” from the Boosters Club account and cashing them or depositing them in her personal account.  Athletic Boosters Clubs raise and spend money to support high school athletes.  Shaw is accused of writing 15 checks totaling over $11,700 and using the money for personal gain.

Deputy District Attorney Joe Dane is prosecuting this case.
