BUS DRIVER TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING AND PHOTOGRAPHING DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED WOMAN ON BUS WHILE DRIVING HER HOME FROM SCHOOL

FULLERTON – A bus driver faces arraignment tomorrow on charges of sexually assaulting a developmentally disabled woman as he drove her home from school. Edward Harry Sliwinski, 69, Brea, is charged with felonies for sexual penetration by foreign object of an incompetent victim and oral copulation of an incompetent person. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted and is being held on $100,000 bail. Sliwinski is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow, Friday, February 15, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. in Department N-12, North Justice Center, Fullerton.

On January 29, 2008, 24-year-old Jane Doe, a developmentally disabled student at Hope University, took her daily bus ride to and from school with the Western Transit Company. Sliwinski, who met Jane Doe in his role as a bus driver, is accused of giving the victim $10 and orally copulating and digitally penetrating Jane Doe. He is accused of taking pictures of the victim disrobed from the waist down.

After sexually assaulting the victim, Sliwinski is accused of dropping her off at her usual pick-up spot. The victim immediately told a family member about the $10 and the molest. The family member told Jane Doe’s mother, who contacted the police.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Jo Escobar of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
