BUSINESS MAN CHARGED WITH TRYING TO BRIBE CITY OFFICIAL WITH CASH
*Will be in court tomorrow morning at the West Justice Center

WESTMINSTER – A building designer was charged and arrested for trying to bribe a city official with cash in an envelope.  Trung Hieu Vo, 63, of Signal Hills, was charged with one count of felony bribing a government official and arrested on the warrant yesterday.  Vo will be in department W-14 or W-15, West Justice Center, in Westminster on April 28, 2006, at 9 a.m.  If convicted, he could receive probation to three years in state prison.  He is being held on $25,000 bail.

On April 10, 2006, Vo is accused of meeting Sam Rake, a Westminster planning commission employee at the Westminster City Hall to talk about expanding a retail center located at the corner of Brookhurst Street and McFadden.  The defendant is accused of being unsatisfied with the progress of his project, giving Rake an envelope containing cash, and instructing him to look at the contents at a later time.  Rake became suspicious before he opened the envelope and notified police.

Deputy District Attorney Scott Steiner of the Felony Projects Unit is prosecuting this case.
