CALVARY CHURCH YOUTH LEADER CONVICTED OF HAVING UNLAWFUL SEX WITH 14-YEAR-OLD
GIRL FROM CHURCH

SANTA ANA – A youth leader from Calvary Church in Santa Ana was convicted today of having unlawful sex with a 14-year-old girl whom he met through the church. Cezar David Soriano, 24, Tustin, pleaded guilty to the Court to one felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse, one felony count of oral copulation of a minor between the ages of 14 and 15, and one felony count of sexual penetration by foreign object of a minor between the ages of 14 and 15. He was sentenced by the Court to one year in jail, three years formal probation, sex offender terms and conditions of probation, and a protective order was issued against him.

Between April 1, 2007 and May 21, 2007, Soriano had unlawful sex with a 14-year-old girl, whom he met at Calvary Church while volunteering as a youth group leader. Soriano groomed her for two years by befriending her and her family. Soriano urged the victim to sneak out of her house at night and had sexual intercourse, orally copulated, and digitally penetrated the victim. The acts occurred in her parent’s backyard while her parents were sleeping or in a nearby park.

Deputy District Attorney Heidi Garrel of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.
