COMMUNITY AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT CELEBRATE TAKING BACK THE PARK AT

 PONDEROSA PARK FAMILY FESTIVAL DAY

ANAHEIM – The Anaheim Police Department (APD), City of Anaheim, and Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) will host the Ponderosa Park Family Festival Day this weekend to celebrate taking control of the park away from gangs and giving it back to the community.  The theme of the event is, “Fighting crime is everyone’s business. Together we can make a difference.”  The festival will be held this Saturday, March 31, 2007 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Poderosa Park, 2100 S. Haster Street, in Anaheim.

The event will feature free lunch sponsored by the APD and OCDA, and information and activity booths including arts and crafts, information on the Anaheim Gang Injunction, a book fair, and Anaheim Police Canines. The Anaheim Police Department will also land a helicopter in the park during the event.  Event speakers will include Anaheim Chief of Police John Welter and Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas, and law enforcement and community leaders will be in attendance. A Spanish interpreter will be available.

The festival is to celebrate the success of the Anaheim Gang Injunction, signed in November of 2006 by the Honorable Daniel Didier.  Ponderosa Park is in the middle of the Safety Zone, which has seen a marked decrease in crime compared to the same time last year.
