Community Volunteers to be Honored by District Attorney

SANTA ANA—District Attorney Tony Rackauckas will honor the office’s volunteers who once again have shown dedication to their communities through many hours of volunteer work educating immigrants about the criminal justice system.  This year’s volunteers will be honored during a dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, at the District Attorney’s Office, 401 Civic Center Drive, Santa Ana.

The Government and Community Relations Unit was started by Rackauckas shortly after he took office in 1999.  The outreach program of the unit, which includes the volunteers, attends various community events.  Their most recent event was a very successful neighborhood cleanup.  The volunteers work very hard and are very optimistic about the results they’re seeing in their neighborhoods.  The program is partially funded by a federal grant.

Three volunteers will be receiving special commendations for their exemplary leadership and commitment to serving the communities.  This year, the volunteers donated a total of 1,500 hours of their time, at savings to the county of almost $18,000.
