CORONA DEL MAR HOUSEWIFE SENTENCED TO 20 MONTHS IN STATE PRISON FOR ATTEMPTED LEWD ACTS UPON A FEMALE 15-YEAR-OLD FAMILY FRIEND
Santa Ana – Victoria C. Hawlish, 41, of Corona Del Mar, was sentenced this morning to 20 months in state prison for attempting to sexually abuse a 15-year-old girl (Jane Doe). As part of her sentence, the defendant must register as a sex offender for the rest of her life. Hawlish was convicted on March 24, 2005, on three counts of attempted lewd acts upon a 15-year-old girl who stayed at her home between June 1 and October 15, 2003.
In June 2003, Victoria Hawlish, a family friend of Jane Doe’s mother, had offered to take care of the victim so that she could attend school in Newport Beach. After living with the defendant and her husband for just a few weeks, Jane Doe saw disturbing behaviors by the defendant. Hawlish would often walk around the house naked. This later escalated into sexual touching of Jane Doe’s breasts, her genitals, and while she was in the shower. In October 2003, Jane Doe reported the incidents to the Newport Beach Police.
“Mrs. Hawlish was placed in a position of trust and she violated that position by sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl. She appears to have no sympathy or empathy for her victim. ” said Senior Deputy District Attorney Jana Hoffmann.
Hawlish was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Carla Singer in the Central Justice Center of the Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana.
