DANA POINT HIGH SCHOOL AND CLUB VOLLEYBALL COACH CHARGED WITH STATUTORY RAPE OF YOUNG FEMALE PLAYER
*Arraignment set for 10 a.m. this morning in the South Justice Center
LAGUNA NIGUEL – Dana Hills High School and Laguna Beach Volleyball Club coach has been charged with the statutory rape of a 17-year-old female player. Zachary Pelzel, 32, of Mission Viejo, was charged with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with Jane Doe occurring between February 1 and March 31, 2006. If convicted, he faces a maximum of three years in state prison.
He is scheduled to appear in Department S-2, South Justice Center, Laguna Niguel at 10 a.m. on April 24, 2006.
Pelzel is accused of meeting the victim at the Laguna Beach Volleyball Club where he began coaching her. The defendant is accused of coaching Jane Doe when she was 16-years-old and having a sexual relationship with the victim when she was 17-years-old.
