DA’s Office and Santa Ana Police Dept. Help Sponsor First Annual Neighborhood Cleanup

EDITOR’S NOTE: Date of event is Saturday, June 16th, 2001.

SANTA ANA— The Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the Santa Ana Police Department, CSP/Gang Prevention Programs and Monte Vista Elementary School will sponsor the first annual community cleanup in the area of 800 S. Townsend in Santa Ana this Saturday, June 16.  This area is occupied by several low-income housing apartment complexes and is considered to be a high crime area.

Residents of the Townsend area will also be involved in the cleanup effort and are optimistic about the project having a positive result on their neighborhood.  The cleanup is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and continue until noon.  The agencies sponsoring this event hope to encourage the Townsend residents to take back their neighborhood and to inspire the local youth to get involved in healthy recreational activities.

Food and entertainment will be provided for all volunteers from noon to 3 p.m. courtesy of the Coca-Cola Company and their Orange County Street Team, Papa John’s Pizza, the Corbin Community Center, Boys Scouts of America, Councilwoman Alberta Christy and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers-Local 441.  The Home Depot of Santa Ana and Wal-Mart of Santa Ana also made this neighborhood cleanup possible through their generous donations.
