DISTRICT ATTORNEY TONY RACKAUCKAS TO JOIN ALBERT AND DEIDRE PUJOLS AND NICK JONAS IN SECOND ANNUAL “STRIKE OUT SLAVERY” FESTIVAL AT ANGEL STADIUM
SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) invites the public to support the fight against human exploitation and trafficking by attending the second annual Strike Out Slavery awareness festival at Angel Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018. The pre-game event will begin at 4:00 p.m. and is hosted by Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (Angels) legendary first baseman Albert Pujols and his philanthropist, human trafficking-fighting wife Deidre Pujols. After the Angels play the Seattle Mariners, the evening will conclude with fireworks and a free Nick Jonas concert. Tickets are available here.
Strike Out Slavery partners with the efforts of the OCDA, acting as part of the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force, in raising public awareness about the prevalence and dangers of human exploitation and trafficking. The OCDA has partnered with Strike Out Slavery since 2017 when it was created by Deidre Pujols. The goal of the event is to educate the public on the existence of modern day slavery and raise funds for major non-profit organizations committed to fighting human exploitation and trafficking by the charitable groups chosen by Deidre Pujols.
The OCDA has built the toughest human exploitation and trafficking unit in the nation in an effort to keep Orange County the safest among surrounding counties and one of the safest in the country. Over the last decade, human exploitation and trafficking cases continue to grow globally, with many cases involving child victims. In April 2013, the OCDA developed the Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) Unit to combat this growing problem using a tactical plan called PERP – Prosecution, Education, Resources, and Publicity. Since its inception, the OCDA HEAT Unit has obtained over 300 felony convictions, 283 prison sentences (including eight life sentences) and currently has an active caseload of over 115 cases.
