EX-BOYFRIEND CONVICTED OF STABBING
AND MURDERING FORMER GIRLFRIEND
IN FRONT OF THEIR 1-YEAR-OLD SON

SANTA ANA – A jealous ex-boyfriend was convicted today of murdering his ex-girlfriend in front of their 1-year-old son in a mall parking lot.  Daniel Pagsisihan Aguba, 33, Diamond Bar, was found guilty of first-degree murder with a true finding on the sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon. He faces a maximum sentence of at least 25 years to life.  Aguba is scheduled to be sentenced August 17, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-36, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

On June 23, 2005, Aguba approached his former girlfriend, 22-year-old Fatima Bumatay, in the parking lot of the Brea Mall.  Bumatay had started dating a new man and Aguba, who had a history of domestic violence, had been stalking the victim. The victim was seen talking to Aguba near his car in the parking lot prior to running away to her own vehicle where her 1-year-old son was strapped in.  Aguba chased the victim to her car and stabbed her 13 times in the lower chest and stomach with a ten inch carving knife in front of their baby. She was taken to St. Jude hospital, Fullerton, where she was pronounced dead.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Cameron Talley of the Homicide Unit is prosecuting this case.
