FEMALE JUVENILE PROBATION COUNSELOR SENTENCED FOR HAVING SEX WITH 17-YEAR-OLD INMATE AND HELPING HIM AFTER HE ESCAPED
LAGUNA NIGUEL – A female juvenile probation counselor at Los Pinos Youth Facility in Trabuco Canyon pleaded guilty Friday for engaging in unlawful sex with a 17-year-old male inmate and helping him after he escaped from custody. Beccy Hasselbarth, 36, Murrieta, pleaded guilty to the court to felonies for three counts of oral copulation of a minor, three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, and accessory after the fact, and misdemeanors for three counts of child annoyance. The judge sentenced her to one year in jail, three years formal probation, and sex offender terms and conditions of probation.
Between February 1, 2005 and October 31, 2005, Hasselbarth engaged in unlawful sex with a 17-year-old inmate, John Doe, who was assigned under her supervision at Los Pinos Youth Facility. She had sex with the victim at the facility, which is designated for juveniles serving criminal sentences. John Doe escaped from the facility and Hasselbarth continued to have unlawful sex with him, and helped him by giving him money. The victim reported the relationship to a social worker while in custody in Los Angeles, and the case was referred to Social Services in Orange County.
Deputy District Attorney Heidi Garrel of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.
