FEMALE JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICER TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR HAVING SEX WITH 17-YEAR-OLD INMATE
LAGUNA NIGUEL – A female juvenile probation officer at Los Pinos Youth Facility in Trabuco Canyon will be arraigned today for engaging in unlawful sex with a 17-year-old male inmate. Beccy Hasselbarth, 34, Murrieta, is charged with three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, three counts of oral copulation of a minor, and three counts of child annoyance. If convicted, she faces up to five years and eight months in prison. She is scheduled to be arraigned today, September 15, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. in Department S-2, Harbor Justice Center, Laguna Niguel.
Between February 1, 2005 and October 31, 2005, Hasselbarth is accused of engaging in unlawful sex with a 17-year-old inmate, John Doe, who was assigned under her supervision at Los Pinos Youth Facility. She is accused of having sex with the victim at the facility, which is designated for juveniles serving criminal sentences. John Doe escaped from the facility and Hasselbarth is accused of continuing to have unlawful sex with him, and helping him by giving him money. The victim reported the relationship to a social worker while in custody in Los Angeles, and the case was referred to Social Services in Orange County.
Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Walker of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
