FORMER PRISON GUARD SENTENCED TO 75 YEARS TO LIFE FOR REPEATEDLY AND FORCIBLY RAPIN AND ORALLY COPULATING FRIEND’S TWO DAUGHTERS FOR SEVERAL YEARS
SANTA ANA – A former Orange County man was sentenced today to 75 years to life in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting his friend’s two daughters for several years beginning when the victims were 3 and 6 years old. Richard Doyle Alread, 37, Muskogee, OK, was found guilty by a jury on Oct. 30, 2008, of eight felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14, two felony counts of forcible rape, and two felony counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child for Jane Doe #1. He was convicted of three felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14 and two felony counts of forcible oral copulation for Jane Doe #2. The sentencing enhancement allegations for substantial sexual conduct with a child and lewd acts on multiple children were found true.
Between May 1, 1992, and Sept. 1, 1997, Alread molested Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2 on a regular basis including masturbation, oral copulation, and showing the victims pornographic movies and magazines. He digitally penetrated Jane Doe #1. During that time, Jane Doe #1 was between 6 and 11 years old, and Jane Doe #2 was between 3 and 9 years old.
Between Sept. 1, 1997, and Nov. 30, 1998, Alread forcibly raped Jane Doe #1 while her mother and Jane Doe #2 were on vacation. He engaged in oral copulation with Jane Doe #2. In 1998 the defendant moved to Oklahoma.
On June 26, 2006, Jane Doe #1, then 20 years old, contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) to report the sexual assaults against her and her sister. On Aug. 31, 2006, Jane Doe #2, then 18 years old, also spoke to OCSD investigators about the crime. Investigators located Alread living in Muskogee, OK, where he had been working as a prison guard.
While living in Oklahoma, the defendant molested two additional victims, 10-year-old Jane Doe #3, and her friend, 10-year-old Jane Doe #4, by engaging in masturbation and oral copulation between 2003 and 2005. He was not charged by Oklahoma officials.
The victims, who were too upset to attend the sentencing, submitted written statements to the court for consideration. Jane Doe #1 said that she spent her childhood “stuck in a very lonely prison,” and that only recently did she stop believing that “those things he said about the incidents being my fault were true.” Jane Doe #2 wrote that the sexual assault she endured were her “earliest memories as a child,” and that she continues to suffer from “sadness, anger…and depression.”
Deputy District Attorney Drew Haughton of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.
