FOURTH STRIKER REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER CHARGED WITH RAPING DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED WOMAN IN MOTEL ROOM
SANTA ANA – A fourth-striker registered sex offender has been charged with sexually assaulting a developmentally disabled woman in a motel room after offering her a ride at a bus stop. Wade Lee Roberts, 60, Anaheim, is charged with one felony count each of rape of an incompetent person, sexual penetration by foreign object of an incompetent victim, and oral copulation of an incompetent person. He has four prior strike convictions from 2008 in Los Angeles County, for which he is a registered sex offender, for continuous sexual abuse of a child, assault with the intent to commit a sex offense, and two convictions for lewd acts on a child under 14. If convicted, Roberts faces a maximum sentence of 45 years to life in state prison. The People will be requesting the defendant be held on $1 million bail at his arraignment today, Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. in Department CJ-1, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
On the morning of April 15, 2012, Roberts is accused of driving up to Jane Doe, who was in her 30s, while she was waiting at an Anaheim bus stop. The victim has a developmental disability. Roberts is accused of offering Jane Doe a ride and driving her to a nearby motel, the Valencia Inn in Anaheim, where he lived.
Once in his motel room, Roberts is accused of removing all of Jane Doe’s clothes and sexually assaulting her as she cried and told him to stop. Roberts is accused of kissing, digitally penetrating, orally copulating, and raping Jane Doe.
After the sexual assault, Jane Doe was able to leave the motel and call 911. The Anaheim Police Department investigated this case.
Deputy District Attorney Jess Rodriguez of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
