HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT BASKETBALL COACH SENTENCED FOR HAVING UNLAWFUL SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH 15-YEAR-OLD STUDENT
SANTA ANA – A former high school assistant basketball coach was sentenced today for having an unlawful sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student he met while working at the school. Jonathan James Marsh, 19, Tustin, pleaded guilty on Dec. 15, 2008, to one felony count of unlawful sexual penetration of a minor, one felony count of unlawful oral copulation of a minor, one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and one misdemeanor count of furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a minor. He was sentenced to 117 days in jail, three years of formal probation, and 24 hours of community service.
On Sept. 1, 2008, Marsh had an unlawful sexual relationship with and provided alcohol to 15-year-old Jane Doe in his Tustin apartment. He digitally penetrated and orally copulated the victim. Marsh, who worked as an assistant basketball coach for Beckman High School at the time of the sexual assault, met the victim while she was a student at the school. The victim disclosed the sexual conduct to a School Resource Police Officer.
Deputy District Attorney Nikki Buracchio of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.
