HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC TRAINER SENTENCED FOR HAVING UNLAWFUL SEX WITH MALE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

NEWPORT BEACH – A high school athletic trainer was sentenced today for having an unlawful sexual relationship for almost one year with a male high school student.  Hope Ashley Jacoby, 24, San Juan Capistrano, pleaded guilty to the court on July 1, 2009, to four felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and three felony counts of oral copulation of a minor. Over the objection of the People, the Honorable Gregory Jones reduced the felonies to misdemeanors at the sentencing today and sentenced Jacoby to 240 hours of community service.

Between Jan. 1, 2008, and Dec. 19, 2008, Jacoby had an unlawful sexual relationship with a male student, whom she met while working as an athletic trainer at Tustin High School. The defendant had unlawful sex with the victim in her car and at her San Juan Capistrano home on several occasions when the victim was between 16 and 17 years old.

Deputy District Attorney Nikki Buracchio of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.
