HUSBAND OF 29 YEARS SENTENCED TO

15 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR MURDERING WIFE BY SHOOTING HER IN THE HEAD

SANTA ANA – A husband of 29 years was sentenced today to 15 years to life in state prison for murdering his wife by shooting her in the head while she was sleeping. Jeffrey Craig Baker, 56, Anaheim, pleaded guilty to one felony count of second degree murder.

In the morning of March 11 2008, Baker shot his wife, 54-year-old Ann Baker, who was sleeping inside their Anaheim home. Baker approached her bedside and shot her once in the head, killing her instantly. Baker then immediately called a lawyer, who was not his attorney for this case or any other case, to seek advice. The lawyer called the Anaheim Police Department (APD) and reported the incident. Baker was arrested by APD at his home.

Baker told police that he wanted to end his wife’s depression brought on by their financial troubles.

During the sentencing today, the victim’s daughter gave a victim impact statement explaining that she knew Baker, her step-father loved her mother. She also said that she forgave the defendant.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Howard Gundy of the Homicide Unit prosecuted this case.
