HUSBAND SENTENCED 40 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR MURDERING ESTRANGED WIFE BY SHOOTING HER IN SANTA ANA HOME

SANTA ANA – A husband was sentenced to 40 years to life in state prison today for shooting and murdering his estranged wife in her Santa Ana home. Jose Antonio Garcia, 38, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury, June 25, 2012, of one felony count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal discharge of a firearm causing death.

On the morning of Oct. 16, 2010, Jose Garcia took a firearm and went to the Santa Ana home of his estranged wife, 34-year-old Adriana Garcia. The defendant violated a restraining order, which the victim had obtained against him as a result of his past violence against her. Jose Garcia murdered the victim by shooting her in the head and leaving her body in a bedroom.

After the murder, the defendant used his cell phone to call 911. Responding officers located Jose Garcia sitting inside his car near the crime scene with a firearm in his possession. He was arrested at the scene.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Mike Murray of the Homicide Unit prosecuted this case.
