HUSBAND TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR MURDERING
WIFE AND DUMPING BODY ON SIDE OF FREEWAY
FULLERTON – A husband will be arraigned today on the charge of murder for suffocating and killing his wife and dumping her body in Los Angeles County. Angel Duarte Cerna, 35, Santa Ana, faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison if convicted. He is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned today, Monday, July 23, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
On November 6, 2006, Gabriella Herrera went missing from her Anaheim home that she shared with Cerna and her two young sons. Cerna is accused of suffocating her and murdering her, and dumping her body on the side of the 60 freeway in Los Angeles before going to work that morning at Mercedes Benz House of Imports in Buena Park. On November 10, 2006, Herrera’s body was discovered, but she remained an unidentified Jane Doe until the Los Angeles County Coroner was able to identify her several weeks later. Cerna was arrested July 19, 2007 by the Anaheim Police Department for her murder.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Howard Gundy of the Homicide Unit is prosecuting this case.
