INTOXICATED MOTHER CHARGED WITH
MURDER AND CHILD ENDANGERMENT IN
DROWNING DEATH OF BABY

FULLERTON – An Anaheim mother has been charged with the murder of her 13-month-old baby after he drowned in the family pool while the defendant was drunk and neglecting the baby.  Paige Elizabeth Looney, 34, Anaheim, is charged with murder and two counts of child endangerment with a sentencing enhancement for death due to child neglect. She faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life if convicted. Looney is expected to be arraigned today, Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the North Justice Center in Fullerton. The Department is to be determined.

On February 21, 2008, Looney is accused of becoming intoxicated after spending the day drinking in her home, instead of caring for her two little boys, ages 4 and 13-months.  Eric, the 13-month-old baby, went out into the backyard and drowned in the pool. Looney’s 12-year-old daughter came home from school and called 9-1-1. Responding paramedics arrived to find the lifeless baby. They were unable to revive the child and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Howard Gundy of the Homicide Unit is prosecuting this case.
