LAW ENFORCEMENT SEEKS INFORMATION ON SOCCER COACH CHARGED WITH SEXUALLY ASSAULTING TWO YOUNG BOYS HE MET COACHING
*Defendant faces additional charges for sexually assaulting three other boys
FULLERTON – Law enforcement is seeking the public’s help in obtaining additional information on a coach facing multiple child molest charges for sexually assaulting two young boys he met through his coaching jobs. Luis Alberto Pineda, 29, Anaheim, is charged with four felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14, and sentencing allegations for substantial sexual conduct with a child for John Doe #1 and #2 and committing lewd acts on multiple victims. If convicted, he faces a sentence ranging from a minimum of 15 years to life to a maximum of 60 years to life in state prison. Pineda is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 2, 2010, at 8:00 a.m. in Department N-12, North Justice Center, Fullerton.
Pineda was a martial arts assistant instructor at Moo Yea Do Martial Arts in Fullerton for about six years before he started working as a soccer coach for the North Orange County Youth Soccer Premier League. He coached the Fullerton Eagles Team, which would meet for practice at Woodcrest Elementary School in Fullerton and Sycamore Junior High School in Anaheim. The defendant is accused of meeting his victims while coaching soccer.
Between Sept. 1, 2009, and Oct. 30, 2009, Pineda is accused of befriending 8-year-olds John Doe #1 and John Doe #2 and earning the trust of the boys’ parents while he was their soccer coach and karate instructor. He is accused of taking John Doe #1 to the movies and fondling him. Pineda is accused of sexually assaulting John Doe #2 on numerous occasions. He is accused of masturbating the victims over and under their clothes.
Both sexual assaults were reported to the Anaheim Police Department (APD) who investigated the case. The defendant was arrested on Aug. 5, 2010. Subsequent investigation by APD revealed three additional victims. The Orange County District Attorney expects to file additional charges for the three new victims at his arraignment Sept. 2, 2010.
Anyone with additional information and who believes they have been a victim is encouraged to contact Anaheim Police Detective Sal Enriquez at (714) 765-1972 or Supervising District Attorney Investigator Randy Litwin at (714) 347-8794.
Deputy District Attorney Nicole Nicholson of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
