MAN CHARGED WITH RAPING AND THREATENING TO KILL WOMAN BEFORE INITIATING 7-HOUR STAND-OFF WITH POLICE
SANTA ANA – A man has been charged with raping, sexually assaulting, and threatening to kill a 29-year-old woman in his home before engaging police in a 7-hour stand-off. David Charles Wilson, 48, Newport Beach, is charged with one felony count each of aggravated assault, criminal threats, forcible oral copulation, false imprisonment by violence, three felony counts each of forcible rape and sexual penetration by foreign object by force, and one misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing an officer. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 58 years in state prison. The People will be requesting the defendant be held on $200,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned today, Wednesday, May 11, 2011, in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana.
At approximately 10:00 p.m. on May 9, 2011, 29-year-old Jane Doe went to Wilson’s Newport Beach home at his invitation after meeting him a few months earlier and speaking with him several times on the phone. As soon as Jane Doe entered the house, Wilson is accused of choking her and threatening to kill her if she did not cooperate.
Wilson is accused of raping Jane Doe in his bedroom and other rooms of the house. He is accused of forcing her to orally copulate him and sexually penetrating her with his fingers, a pen, and a toothbrush. Wilson is accused of refusing to let Jane Doe leave and keeping her in his home against her will.
Prior to going to meet the defendant, Jane Doe told a friend that she was going to meet Wilson. Beginning at approximately 12:30 a.m. Jane Doe’s friend tried calling the victim but was unable to reach her. At approximately 3:00 a.m., after several failed attempted to reach Jane Doe and becoming concerned for Jane Doe’s safety, the victim’s friend drove to Wilson’s house and called out for her friend from outside. Jane Doe was able to escape through a window and run to her friend’s car.
A neighbor heard yelling and called 911. The Newport Beach Police Department, who investigated this case, responded to the defendant’s home. Wilson is accused of barricading himself inside his house and refusing to comply with the officers’ orders to come out. After an almost 7-hour stand-off, Wilson is accused of finally coming out of his home at 9:40 a.m.
Anyone with additional information or who believes they have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Lou Gutierrez at (714) 347-8794.
