SANTA ANA – A man faces trial tomorrow for forcibly sodomizing three victims, two of whom he met online at MillionaireMatch.com. Joseph Raymond Garcia, 51, Irvine, is charged with six felony counts of sodomy by force, two felony counts of forcible rape, and faces a sentencing enhancement allegation for forcible sex crimes against multiple victims. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 120 years to life in state prison. Opening statements are expected to begin tomorrow morning, Tuesday, March 29, 2011, in Department C-30, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined.
Between March 2005 and October 2006, Garcia is accused of meeting two women through an online dating service at www.MillionaireMatch.com. He is accused of creating a personal profile claiming to have an annual income over $200,000 and describing himself as “sophisticated, charming,” and “strikingly handsome.” Garcia is accused of meeting his third victim at the United States Postal Service, where she worked. The victims ranged in age from 22 to 42 years old.
In each case, the defendant is accused of arranging to go on a date with the victim and then returning with her to his Irvine apartment. Once inside his home, Garcia is accused of forcibly sodomizing Jane Doe #2 and forcibly raping and sodomizing Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #3.
The victims reported the sexual assault against them at various times and the Irvine Police Department investigated this case.
