MAN INDICTED BY GRAND JURY FOR STRANGULATION-MURDER OF WIFE

IN IRVINE APARTMENT

 

SANTA ANA – A man was indicted by the Orange County Grand Jury today for strangling and murdering his wife in their Irvine apartment. Shalabh Rastogi, 39, Irvine, is charged with one felony count of murder and faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison if convicted. Rastogi is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment June 15, 2012, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-5, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

 

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office released a press release May 23, 2012, with the following information on the Rastogi case:

 

At the time of the crime, Rastogi is accused of having marital trouble with his 40-year-old wife Jalina George, with whom he had three school-aged children.

 

At approximately 9:40 p.m. on May 21, 2012, the defendant is accused of strangling and murdering George in a bedroom of their Irvine apartment. He is accused of leaving the victim’s body in the bedroom closet and then calling the police.

 

The Irvine Police Department, who investigated this case, immediately responded to the scene and arrested the defendant without incident.

 

The couple’s three children were not home at the time of the murder.

 

Senior Deputy District Attorney Howard Gundy of the Homicide Unit is prosecuting this case.
