MAN SENTENCED TO 45 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR FORCIBLY SODOMIZING THREE WOMEN, TWO
OF WHOM HE MET THROUGH ONLINE
“MILLIONAIRE” DATING SITE
SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to 45 years to life in state prison for forcibly sodomizing three victims, two of whom he met online at MillionaireMatch.com. Joseph Raymond Garcia, 51, Irvine, was found guilty by a jury April 7, 2010, of six felony counts of sodomy by force, two felony counts of forcible rape, and a sentencing enhancement allegation for forcible sex crimes against multiple victims.
Between March 2005 and October 2006, Garcia met two women through an online dating service at www.MillionaireMatch.com. He created a personal profile claiming to have an annual income over $200,000 and described himself as “sophisticated, charming,” and “strikingly handsome.” Garcia met his third victim at the United States Postal Service, where she worked. The victims ranged in age from 22 to 42 years old.
In each case, the defendant arranged to go on a date with the victim and then return with her to his Irvine apartment. Once inside his home, Garcia forcibly sodomized Jane Doe #2 and forcibly raped and sodomized Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #3.
The victims reported the sexual assault against them at various times and the Irvine Police Department investigated this case.
During the sentencing today, two of Garcia’s victims gave impact statements to the court. Jane Doe #3 said that Garcia has detrimentally affected her romantic life and sense of security, and she hopes he one day realizes the impact of his actions. Jane Doe #1 said that the way Garcia violated her has affected her physical, financial, and emotional wellbeing. She explained that she has seen a change in her self-confidence, demeanor, and the way she lives her daily life. Jane Doe #1 asked the court to impose a sentence that will prevent Garcia from ever harming another woman.
Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Walker of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.
