MAN SENTENCED TO 90 YEARS TO LIFE FOR MOLESTING AND TAKING VIDEOS AND PHOTOS OF TWO 10-YEAR-OLD FEMALE RELATIVES
SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced yesterday to 90 years to life in state prison for molesting two 10-year-old female relatives and taking sexual photos and videos of the girls. Darren Scott Hulbert, 41, Anaheim, pleaded guilty yesterday to 20 felony counts including the forced aggravated sexual assault of a child, lewd acts on a child under 14, oral copulation with a person under 14 years of age, using a minor for sex acts, and sentencing enhancements for lewd acts on multiple children and substantial sexual conduct with a child.
Between January and July 2006, Hulbert sexually assaulted two 10-year-old female relatives. The defendant sexually assaulted Jane Doe #1 on several occasions in his home when he was alone with the victim including sex acts ranging from touching and masturbation to oral copulation. Hulbert videotaped and photographed several of the sex acts.
During the same time period, Hulbert sexually assaulted Jane Doe #2 on two occasions when he was alone with her by touching her breasts. The defendant videotaped and photographed the victim.
Jane Doe #1’s mother gave a statement to the court during sentencing and said that despite what Hulbert did to her daughter, Jane Doe #1 is a survivor and was not going to let Hulbert’s crime destroy her life.
Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Herrera of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.
