MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR ATTEMPTING TO KIDNAP
10-YEAR-OLD GIRL OUTSIDE OF HER HOME BY OFFERING HER CASH TO GET INTO HIS CAR

SANTA ANA – A man will be arraigned today for attempting to kidnap a 10-year-old girl by offering her money to get into his car outside of her Anaheim home.  Alfredo Granados Canchola, 27, Artesia, is charged with one felony count of attempted kidnapping to commit a sexual offense and one felony count of contacting a child with the intent to commit a sexual offense.  He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted. Canchola is being held on $1 million bail and is expected to be arraigned this morning, Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, in Department C-5, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on Aug. 15, 2009, 10-year-old Jane Doe was helping her family clean out the garage of their home in an unincorporated area in Anaheim and went to take the trash out. As the victim rode her Razor Scooter down the driveway to the dumpsters at the rear of the complex, Canchola is accused of pulling up next to her in a dark-colored maroon or burgundy 1991 Lexus sedan. He is accused of pretending to look for someone and asking Jane Doe if she knew the person. When Jane Doe said “no,” Canchola is accused of driving to the end of the driveway, pulling over, and parking his car.

The defendant is accused of approaching the victim on foot and attempting to talk to her. He is accused of offering Jane Doe cash to come back to his car to “talk” with him. The victim rushed back to her house and told her father as Canchola fled the scene. Jane Doe’s father was able to get a description of Canchola’s car and a partial license plate and immediately called 9-1-1.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information or who believes they have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Randy Litwin at (714) 347-8794. Deputy District Attorney Nicole Nicholson of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
