MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR KIDNAPPING AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTING 7-YEAR-OLD AUTISTIC GIRL, INCLUDING SEXUAL INTERCOURSE AND DIGITAL PENETRATION
WESTMINSTER – A man will be arraigned tomorrow for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 7-year-old autistic girl, including sexual intercourse and digital penetration. Daniel Vlas Flores, 27, Huntington Beach, is charged with one felony count each of kidnapping to commit a sexual offense, sexual intercourse with a child 10 years old or younger, sexual penetration of a child 10 years old or younger, and sentencing enhancement allegations for substantial sexual conduct with a child and great bodily injury to a sexual assault victim. If convicted on all charges, Flores faces a sentence ranging from 25 years to life up to 65 years to life in state prison. Lopez is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at 8:30 a.m. in Department W-14, West Justice Center, Westminster.
On Aug. 19, 2009, 7-year-old Jane Doe was playing in a Huntington Beach apartment complex park with an 8-year-old neighbor and a babysitter on the 7800 Block of Sycamore Avenue. While the babysitter wasn’t looking, the defendant is accused of walking over to the children, telling them that he needed someone to help him move furniture in his apartment, and asking Jane Doe to help him. Flores is accused of pulling Jane Doe by the hand and walking her to his nearby apartment while she repeatedly told him she did not want to go. He is accused of taking her inside his apartment and sexually assaulting Jane Doe by engaging in sexual intercourse and digital penetration with the victim. Jane Doe was able to get away and return home to tell her mother about the assault, who reported the incident to police. Flores was arrested later that day.
The defendant has also lived in Los Angeles County and the investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with additional information or who believes they have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Tim Craig at (714) 347-8558 or Detective Cathy Meza of the Huntington Beach Police Department at (714) 536-5970.
Deputy District Attorney Eric Scarbrough of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
