MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR MURDERING 62-YEAR-OLD MAN AND KILLING HIS DOG IN SAN CLEMENTE

LAGUNA NIGUEL – A man charged with murder will be arraigned tomorrow for repeatedly stabbing a 62-year-old acquaintance and his dog in his San Clemente home.  Salvador Marquez, 25, is charged with murder, cruelty to an animal, use of a deadly weapon, and unlawful taking of a vehicle.  If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.  Marquez is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow, August 8, 2006, at 9:00 a.m. at Harbor Justice Center, Laguna Niguel. 

Marquez is accused of murdering Stephen Clark in Clark’s San Clemente home on August 5, 2006.  He is accused having a confrontation in the victim’s home, stabbing him multiple times with a knife and killing him.  Marquez is accused of killing Clark’s small dog by stabbing it multiple times.  He is also accused of stealing the victim’s car, fleeing the scene, and being arrested early the next morning for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Deputy District Attorney Ebrahim Baytieh of the Homicide Unit is prosecuting this case.
