MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR STABBING-MURDER OF MOTHER AND BROTHER IN YORBA LINDA HOME
SANTA ANA – A man will be arraigned today for murdering his mother and brother by stabbing them to death in their Yorba Linda home. Eder Giovanni Herrera, 24, Yorba Linda, is charged with two felony counts of murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 52 years to life in state prison. The People will be requesting Herrera be held on $2 million bail at his arraignment today, Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana.
In October 2011, Herrera is accused of living in Yorba Linda with his 53-year-old mother Raquel Estrada and 34-year-old brother Juan Herrera.
On the night of Oct. 25, 2011, the defendant is accused of murdering his mother by stabbing her to death and leaving her body on the kitchen floor. He is accused of murdering his brother by stabbing him to death and leaving his body in a hallway. Herrera is accused of then fleeing the scene and staying overnight at a friend’s home nearby.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. that night, the Brea Police Department (BPD) received a tip leading them to the victims’ residence. BPD patrols the City of Yorba Linda and investigated this case.
Herrera was arrested the following morning by BPD as he drove away from his friend’s home.
