WHO: Mario Anthony Melchionne, 54
WHAT: Was denied release Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at a Proposition 36 resentencing hearing by the Honorable Gary S. Paer. Melchionne is being held at Kern Valley State Prison, Delano
Deputy District Attorney Kelly Roosevelt opposed Melchionne’s release on behalf of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA).
At the hearing, the Court found Melchionne ineligible for resentencing and denied Melchionne’s petition based on his criminal history. While incarcerated, Melchionne murdered his cellmate and was sentenced to an additional 75 years to life in state prison to be served consecutively with the sentence he received for his commitment offense.
Criminal Background Submitted for Court Consideration
On Feb. 10, 1978, Melchionne was convicted of one felony count of selling narcotics to juveniles. He was sentenced to three years informal probation and six months in jail.
On Jan. 17, 1979, Melchionne was convicted of one felony count each of armed robbery, kidnapping, and attempted robbery in Clark County, NV. He was sentenced to 15 years in state prison.
On Feb. 22, 1982, Melchionne was convicted of two felony counts of armed robbery. He was sentenced to three years in state prison. (Strike Offense)
