WHAT: Unanimously affirmed the conviction and death penalty sentence today for John Samuel Ghobrial, who was found guilty by a jury on Dec. 11, 2001, of one felony count of first-degree murder with a special circumstance for committing a murder during a lewd and lascivious act on a minor. On March 20, 1998, Ghobrial befriended 12-year-old Juan Delgado and lured him into a shed where the defendant was living in La Habra. Ghobrial then sexually assaulted, strangled, and dismembered the victim before placing Delgado’s remains in concrete cylinders and scattering them throughout the surrounding area.
Ghobrial was sentenced to death on April 10, 2002.
