MURDER CHARGES FILED IN A MOTHER’S DAY ROAD RAGE CRASH THAT BEGAN AT AN ATM MACHINE

Santa Ana – Jonathan Chacon, a 19-year-old landscaper from Orange, has been charged with murder and hit and run in the death of 24-year-old Javier Adame. Adame died after his vehicle crashed into the center median along Garden Grove Boulevard on Mother’s Day. His pregnant wife and two-year-old daughter survived the crash. If convicted, Chacon faces 15 years to life in state prison.

On May 8, 2005, Chacon is accused of starting an argument and yelling verbal obscenities at Adame’s pregnant wife who was attempting to use an ATM machine at a Washington Mutual Bank in Garden Grove.  When the Adames drove off to avoid further confrontation, Chacon followed them in his pickup truck down Garden Grove Boulevard.  A Garden Grove Police officer witnessed the two vehicles driving at a high rate of speed just before Adame lost control of his vehicle and struck the center median. Chacon was arrested as he tried to flee the scene of the accident on foot.

Chacon is set to be arraigned on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at 9 AM in department W14, West Justice Center, 8141 13th Street, Westminster, CA 92683.  He is being held at the Orange County Jail without bail.  Senior Deputy District Attorney Larry Yellin in the Homicide unit has been assigned to prosecute the case.
