MUSICIAN CONVICTED OF DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL IN LAGUNA BEACH

 

NEWPORT BEACH – A musician was convicted this afternoon of driving under the influence of alcohol in Laguna Beach. Richard Steven Sambora, 48, Laguna Beach, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor of driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 percent or more. The defendant was sentenced to three years of informal probation, three months of first offender alcohol awareness classes, standard court restitution fees, and ordered to have no drugs or alcohol for the duration of his probation. Sambora was represented by his attorney and was not present in court.

 

On March 25, 2008, Sambora veered over the white painted lines and straddled two lanes in his Hummer H2 while driving southbound on South Coast Highway in Laguna Beach. He had a blood alcohol level of .13 percent. Two minors and an adult female were in the vehicle with the defendant. The minors were released to the custody of the adult passenger.
