NINE ORANGE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY PROSECUTORS HONORED BY MOTHERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVING FOR EXCEPTIONAL PROSECUTION OF DRUNK DRIVING CASES IN 2009

YORBA LINDA – Nine Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) prosecutors were honored today for their time and effort in prosecuting driving under the influence (DUI) cases by the Orange County Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). MADD hosted the 23rd Annual Law Enforcement and Prosecutor Recognition Luncheon today, March 11, 2010, to honor Orange County police officers and prosecutors for their outstanding contributions to the prosecution of cases involving DUIs. The luncheon was held at the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace.

MADD is a nationwide, non-profit organization that works to stop drunk driving, prevent underage drinking, and support victims, survivors, and families affected by drunk driving. The Orange County Chapter of MADD was formed in 1981 and offers services to the local community, including youth programs, victim services, and special events.  MADD works closely with Orange County law enforcement agencies to support the prosecution and apprehension of those who put the public at risk by driving under the influence of alcohol.

Deputy District Attorney Susan Price of the Homicide Unit was a special presenter at the luncheon. Price spoke about the accomplishments of vehicular homicide prosecutions under the Homicide Unit, which was created by District Attorney Tony Rackauckas in 2008.

At the lunch law enforcement officials and deputy district attorneys were honored for their time and effort in prosecuting DUI cases. OCDA prosecutors were recognized for the assistance they provided to victims and their families their diligent efforts in criminal prosecution. Nine Orange County deputy district attorneys received the Diligent Prosecutor Award: Jason Baez, Michael Bardeen, Bryan Clavecilla, Lisa Grossman, Shaddi Kamiabipour, Susan Price, Vickie Schneider, Karyn Stokke, and Daniel Varon.

Each of the nine deputy district attorneys recognized for their effort in DUI prosecution was nominated by their OCDA supervisor or a MADD victim advocate. The recipients were verbally recognized and received a framed certificate at the event.
