OCDA SEEKS PUBLIC’S HELP IN IDENTIFYING POTENTIAL ADDITIONAL VICTIMS OF ATTORNEY CHARGED WITH UNLAWFUL SEX WITH MINORS

SANTA ANA – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying potential additional victims of an attorney charged with having unlawful sex with two minors. Matthew Christopher Tye, 31, Irvine, is charged with eight felony counts of lewd acts upon a child, three felony counts each of oral copulation of a minor under 16 and unlawful intercourse, and one felony count of dissuading a witness from reporting a crime for Jane Doe #1. For Jane Doe #2 he is charged with five felony counts of oral copulation of a minor, three felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, and one felony count for dissuading a witness from reporting a crime. He faces sentencing enhancement allegation for committing lewd acts on multiple children. If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of 24 years in state prison. Tye was arrested this morning by the Orange County Sherriff’s Department and is being held on $500,000 bail. His arraignment date and Department are to be determined.

Between May and July 2009, Tye is accused of meeting 17-year-old Jane Doe #2 online. He is accused of arranging to meet the victim and unlawfully having sex with her on multiple occasions at his Irvine home and in his car in a Disneyland parking lot. Jane Doe #2 reported the assault to a family member, who reported it to police. Tye is accused of calling the victim and telling her to lie to police about the sexual conduct.

While investigating Jane Doe #2, 14-year-old Jane Doe #1 was discovered. Tye is accused of having unlawful sex with the victim on multiple occasions in the defendant’s home between May and July 2009. Tye is accused of being in possession of several videotaped recordings of himself engaging in sex acts with girls who appear to be minors. The girls on the videos are yet to be identified.

Anyone with additional information or who believes they have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Randy Litwin at (714) 347-8794.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Heather Brown of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
