SANTA ANA, Calif. – An off-duty Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) deputy was arraigned today for child endangerment and criminal storage of a firearm after placing his loaded duty weapon in a child’s backpack.

Circumstances of the Case
- On April 11, 2018, off-duty LASD Deputy Murillo is accused of placing his loaded firearm into his 8-year-old relative’s backpack and driving to drop the child off with the child’s caretaker.
- The caretaker was made aware of the firearm approximately 25 minutes after Murillo left and contacted the Fullerton Police Department (FPD).
- FPD investigated this case.
