OFFICE OF THE ORANGE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY CONDUCTS AN ESL PRESENTATION AT SUPERIOR COURT
Santa Ana – April 30, 2003 The Orange County District Attorney’s Government and Community Relations Unit will be conducting an ESL (English as a Second Language) presentation tomorrow, May 1st, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in Department C1 of the Superior Court, located at 700 Civic Center Drive West in Santa Ana.
Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) Tony Rackauckas and OCDA staff regularly conducts criminal justice workshops for adult ESL classes in local community colleges. This effort provides a tremendous opportunity for the Office of the District Attorney to take a more proactive orientation toward crime prevention and enforcement within immigrant communities. Because many ESL students intend to apply for citizenship, they are eager to learn about government systems and are very receptive to the curriculum.
In collaboration with Superior Court to further outreach to the Hispanic community, the ESL presentation will be conducted in a courtroom to allow immigrants to have the opportunity to learn in an environment directly related to the topics covered in the presentation. The Mexican Consulate, Fair Housing Department, and Superior Court will also be participating.
The topics to be covered in the ESL presentation include: an Overview of the Criminal Justice Professionals, Consumer Awareness, Tenant Rights, and services provided by the Mexican Consulate. Many of the ESL participants are students from local colleges and schools.
