OPENING STATEMENTS TO BEGIN FOR SON FOR SHOOTING AND MURDERING MOTHER

SANTA ANA – Opening statements will begin tomorrow for a son charged with murdering his mother, Ann Marylnn Rizer, in her Westminster home.  Michael Charles Rizer, 26, is charged with one count of murder with an enhancement for the personal discharge of a firearm causing death.  If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison.  The case is scheduled to begin tomorrow, November 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in Department C-35, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

On May 17, 2004, Michael Rizer is accused of hiding in the closet of the master bedroom in his parent’s home with a shotgun.  When his mother returned home from work, he is accused of jumping out from the closet and shooting her one time in the face as she attempted to flee into the master bathroom.  The defendant’s father found his murdered wife when he returned home from work.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Ebrahim Baytieh of the Homicide Unit is prosecuting this case.
