PAROLEE BACK TO PRISON FOR ASSAULTING
WOMAN AND ATTEMPTING TO RUN OVER POLICE OFFICER IN FRONT OF LOCAL BAR
SANTA ANA – A parolee was sentenced today to seven years and four months in state prison after being convicted of violently assaulting a woman in his car and then attempting to run over the victim and a police officer when the officer tried to rescue the woman. Sabree Mohammad Triplett, 28, Huntington Beach, was found guilty on May 14, 2007 of felony aggravated assault of a peace officer and two felony counts of aggravated assault. The jury also found true that the defendant was convicted and sentenced to prison for a 1999 possession of drugs and a 2003 possession of drugs for sale.
On January 21, 2006, Triplett met Jane Doe at the Time Out Tavern in Aliso Viejo. The victim was intoxicated, and Triplett was able to get her into his car. He violently assaulted the 22-year-old woman by biting, choking and punching her.
An Orange County Sheriff’s deputy, who was in uniform and a marked patrol car, was in the area on an unrelated call. While in the parking lot, the officer turned his headlights on the defendant’s parked car, where Triplett was struggling with Jane Doe. The victim screamed and jumped out from Triplett’s vehicle. The defendant attempted to then run over the victim and the officer, who had gotten out of his car to rescue Jane Doe. The deputy and the victim had to jump out of the way of the moving car to avoid being hit, and Triplett fled the scene and was later apprehended.
Deputy District Attorney Lynda Fernandez of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.
