PAROLEE SENTENCED TO 55 YEARS TO LIFE FOR MOLESTING 4-YEAR-OLD FEMALE RELATIVE

WHILE BABYSITTING

SANTA ANA – A parolee was sentenced Friday to 55 years to life in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration for sexually assaulting a 4-year-old female relative while he was babysitting her and solely responsible for her care. Gordon Ray Bodkin, 47, Huntington Beach, was found guilty July 23, 2013, by a jury of one felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child under 10, and one felony count of sexual penetration of a child under 10. He has a prior strike conviction for residential burglary in 2009.

On the evening of Aug. 9, 2011, Bodkin was alone in a Huntington Beach home with 4-year-old Jane Doe, a female relative whom he was babysitting. The defendant sexually assaulted Jane Doe including sexually penetrating her and raping her.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., Jane Doe’s father arrived home. He walked into the home to find Jane Doe naked on the bed. Bodkin, who was naked from the waist down, was straddling Jane Doe on the bed when the victim’s father walked in. The defendant grabbed his clothing and ran from the home.

The Huntington Beach Police Department, who investigated this case, released a press release seeking the public’s help locating the defendant. Bodkin was arrested Aug. 15, 2011, after receiving a tip regarding the defendant’s whereabouts. The defendant had returned to his Huntington Beach apartment after the police had searched there for him.

Bodkin’s lifetime sex offender registration will bar him from entering County recreational areas and City parks which have passed the Sex Offender Ordinance. Deputy District Attorney Karyn Stokke of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.
