PAROLEE TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR MOLESTING
4-YEAR-OLD FEMALE RELATIVE WHILE BABYSITTING
WESTMINSTER – A parolee will be in court tomorrow on charges of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old female relative while he was babysitting her and solely responsible for her care. Gordon Ray Bodkin, 45, Huntington Beach, will be arraigned tomorrow on one felony count each of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child under 10, sexual penetration with a foreign object of a child under 10, and oral copulation of a child under 10, with sentencing enhancement allegations for substantial sexual conduct with a child. He has a prior strike conviction for residential burglary in 2009. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 40 years to life in state prison. Bodkin is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled for continued arraignment tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. in Department W-14, West Justice Center, Westminster.
On the evening of Aug. 9, 2011, Bodkin is accused of being alone in a Huntington Beach home with 4-year-old Jane Doe, a female relative whom he was babysitting. The defendant is accused sexually assaulting Jane Doe including orally copulating her and raping and/or digitally penetrating her.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., Jane Doe’s father arrived to pick up his daughter. He walked into the home to find Jane Doe naked on the bed. Bodkin is accused of standing over Jane Doe naked from the waist down when the victim’s father walked in. The defendant is accused of grabbing his clothing and running from the home. Jane Doe’s father called 911.
The Huntington Beach Police Department, who investigated this case, released a press release seeking the public’s help locating the defendant. Bodkin was arrested Aug. 15, 2011, after receiving a tip regarding the defendant’s whereabouts. The defendant is accused of having returned to his Huntington Beach apartment after the police had searched there for him.
Deputy District Attorney Nagy Morcos of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
