PRETEND COP CHARGED WITH KIDNAPPING WOMAN WITH INTENT TO RAPE AFTER LEAVING VICTIM NAKED IN THE WOODS
FULLERTON – Santa Ana man accused of pretending to be a police officer and attempting to rape a 21-year-old Los Angeles County woman was in North Justice Center, N-3, Fullerton today after waiving extradition from Tennessee. Anthony Ray Willis, 35, Santa Ana, was charged with kidnapping with the intent to rape, attempted rape, and assault with intent to commit rape. He will be arraigned on February 17, 2006. He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.
On January 14, 2006, Jane Doe was out with her boyfriend partying at a few bars in Fullerton. After the bars closed, Doe and her boyfriend fell asleep in her car. When Doe woke up and started her car, she heard a knock on her window. Defendant is accused of pretending to put Doe under arrest and taking her to his car. When Jane Doe realized that the defendant was not wearing an uniform and his car was a van, she refused to go with him. The defendant is accused of grabbing and dragging Jane Doe and throwing her in his van.
Def is accused of driving Jane Doe for 33 miles up Trabuco canyon and off on dirt roads where his van became stuck. Defendant is accused of ordering Jane Doe to undress and trying to rape her. A passerby came to help them and she fled naked into the woods. Def also fled leaving identifying information. The police searched for the victim but she was not found until the following morning, scratched and bruised from her ordeal in the woods all night. Defendant was later located in Tennessee.
Deputy District Attorney Kal Kaliban of the Sexual Assaults Unit is prosecuting this case.
