REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER WAITING TO SERVE JAIL TIME FOR ANOTHER SEX CRIME CHARGED WITH VIOLATING SEX OFFENDER ORDINANCE BY ENTERING IRVINE PARK NEAR CHILDREN
*This is the first defendant to be charged under the Irvine sex offender ordinance
NEWPORT BEACH – A registered sex offender who was scheduled to begin serving a jail sentence in one week for another sex crime has been charged with violating the City of Irvine sex offender ordinance for entering a city park where children regularly gather while children were playing on the playground and tennis court. Jean Pierre Nguyen, 51, Garden Grove, is charged with one misdemeanor count of illegally being a sex offender in a City park. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of six months in jail. The People will be requesting Nguyen be held on $15,000 bail in this case. The defendant is also in custody on $15,000 bail for a related probation violation (below). The defendant is expected to be arraigned Oct. 22, 2012, at 8:30 a.m. in Department H-8, Harbor Justice Center, Newport Beach.

On Oct. 17, 1996, Nguyen provided marijuana to a child and had inappropriate sexual contact with a second child, for which he was charged with one felony count of furnishing marijuana to a minor and one misdemeanor count of annoying or molesting a child (case # 96WF3041).

On March 16, 1998, Nguyen pleaded guilty to both counts. |
